Read EVERY book on the subject you can get your hands on. My first two years of studies have been spent with my nose in books (the first year especially).

For starters, check out Raven Grimassi, Silver Raven Wolf, Scott Cunningham, and Yasmine Galenorn.

I definitely agree with the nose in the books. I also make notes, fold a lot of pages. I would suggest not trying to do anything until you feel you're ready. it's ok to take your time. Feel out what's right for you because there's not 1 set way to practice. I feel like everyone has a path or way to practice that makes sense to them.
