Reflux?

Question

How can you tell if your baby has reflux? My baby spits up a lot after feedings and then gets really fussy. She also spits up during naps. Is that just normal 6 week old behavior?

Oh trust me you'll know. My daughter would scream and scream and scream the day away, every single day. She hardly ever spit up however, but whenever she would try to sleep I would hear a really loud swallow and she would start screaming again. It was so painful to watch her struggle so much, but I thought it could've been wind until it got so severe that she did not sleep for 9 1/2 hours!! So I took her to the doctors and they told me she has severe reflux and gave me Infant gaviscon powder and told me to always keep her upright. She's a lot better now however still struggles some days more than others

Totally normal! Try keeping them upright for 10-20 minutes after a feed. It's hard when you are both tired but it makes sure burps are out and milk is down. There is a valve above the stomach that is kinda flappy for newborns so it can allow the milk to come back up. They will still vomit sometimes and that can be simply because their little stomached are so small and they have swallowed too much to fit in there! Check with a doctor before giving infacol etc just in case there is a problem. My bubba is 16 weeks now, feeding less times per day, sleeping through the night, only taking 10 min for a full breastfeed and not vomiting all the time. It will come sooner than you think, but in the beginning those days and nights are loooooong! Hang in there!!

My son same thing spits up all day gassy and miserable and nothing helps but he's gaining and healthy so docs say he's fine!

My baby is 10months old and is still being medicated for her reflux. We are hoping to try and get her off it soon. She still suffers no where near as bad though

If ur suspecting something is wrong it generally is. U know with a reflux baby. My baby went u diagnosed for 5 months. I knew something was wrong by 1 week. She was super fussy at the bottle cried like litterly all day. She would never sleep and if i got her down shed scrunch her legs up and wake up in pain after 10min. She hated being on her back. Lots of hiccups that wld keep her awake. Hers was silent reflux

It was pure hell. Caused me post natel depression and anxiety she was prescribed losec and 3 weeks later a different bub!

My son (6 wks old) does this occasionally and what we have done is get over the counter Mylanta (which our peds doc recommended) and give him it twice a day to calm his stomach. Also after feeding him we sit him upright on our lap or in his car seat for twenty minutes so his stomach can digest properly also recommended by the doc). This has seemed to minimize the fussiness and the gas in his tummy. The spit up is normal so I just try not to bounce him around or anything after feedings. Hope this helps!

I'm having the same problem with her throwing up and gas. She is not gaining enough although she was born 3 lbs extra the norm. Your guys tips will help a lot!! She has her appointment this Tuesday
