Family members kissing baby on lips?

How do you handle this or am I wrong to think this way. My baby isn't even born yet and I'm thinking of how I'll handle this. I know it's going to come up with my mother in law because she kisses everyone on the lips. (Not me because I turn away). But I can't have her kissing my baby on the lips. I've read that most people who have  herpes type 1 (aka cold sores) got it from being innocently kissed as a child by family members.

Oh I most definitely have announced the rules already.  3 more weeks and baby will be here! & I've told several family members if I hear any kind of sniffling they are NOT to come near my baby lol I have other rules too, like no flashes on cameras, no kissing hands or FACE, and some other small things... I DO NOT care if they are offended. This is just the way it will be. And that's it, period. 💁🏼

Besides the obvious spread of illness. You should avoid kissing a baby on the mouth because they are not born with the bacteria that causes dental disease. No sense in setting them up for tooth decay before their teeth even come in. My mother is an Oral Health therapist and she is constantly scolding everyone who even looks like they may kiss my baby... Including myself. But just ask people to wash their hands and please not kiss the baby. Make the rules clear from the get go. We have general expectations to my family before our was born and then elaborated as needed.

This is an extremely sensitive subject for me. My mom gets cold sores and after reading an article about a baby who almost died from contracting it as a newborn, I told my mom my feelings and said that I didn't want anyone putting their lips on him. She totally understood. Then not even a week after this conversation she kissed my cousins newborn baby on the cheek and she was just getting over a cold sore. Ugh I have no idea how I am going to enforce it. But if he ends up with something I will be beyond pissed.

I've also been thinking about this and wondering how to handle! I don't want to be that person who lays down a bunch of rules before handing the baby over but at the same time if someone gets my baby sick IM gonna be the one having to take care of a sick baby! And one of my friends did get reoccurring cold sores from her father kissing her as a child. My step daughter is 7 and always wants to kiss on the lips bc her mom does it. I always kiss her on the cheek or forehead and turn my head so she gets my cheek. I'll def have to tell her no lip kisses to baby!

Do some research on what active oral herpes can do to newborns. My midwife sent me an article, but I can't find it. Nobody besides my husband and I are kissing our baby.

I don't do that to my own. That's a BIG NO NO!  And yes, I too will have to deal with this with my MIL.  Ugh!
