I answered no, because this cycle I tested with both types. 
But what I have read, this can be completely normal, every woman's surge is different and some produce more LH than others. The month I got pregnant, this was the darkest my strip got, ovulation confirmed with BBT though. The digital ones are just so much more expensive, so I only use them on the days I think I am having my surge based on CD and darkness of strips.
