Contractions??

Question

I'm 36 weeks pregnant today and I just experienced tightening in my upper abdomen that was semi painful. First baby and don't really know what to look for and what certain things mean. 
I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this and what it may be. I really want to know what to look for and if I should be prepared.

It's Braxton hicks contractions. It's your body practicing for the big day

I would call to be safe . I was told by my Obgyn that when my Braxton hicks contractions started to hurt or I started to bleed I needed to come in . But yes it is contractions with your uterus tightening up

I'm only 29 weeks and I get those all the time..and yes they are  painful
