Is it crazy?

So my boyfriend is currently in college and I've been looking into colleges myself. I haven't looked too much into it this college yet but I have been doing some math. Would it be crazy for us to both be in college and living together in an apartment?  I found one closeish to both schools that is $555 a month. It is 30 minutes from his school now and 15 away from where I'm looking at. Would it be too much for us to work part time and go to college? Is us living together realistic?  For a dorm door it is about 10,000 a year plus this way we'd get to spend more time together. What do you think?

Well I think you need to see if at the college you are looking into if freshman can live off campus....some schools require freshman to live on campus.

Also, you need to think about if that $55O rent includes utilities... Because if not expect a few hundred dollars more plus cost of food and fuel to travel to school plus other expenses.

Most of the time if you have scholarships or student loans they can help pay for your dorm room, and if you live in an apartment all that becomes and out of pocket expense.

Personally I think you should do your freshman year living separate as college is a big adjustment and you will need to focus on school during that time. Living with someone is a whole new ball of wax so I would do one step at a time.

If you and your boyfriend are meant to be it won't matter if you live together at first, focus on yourself a little to help you get a good start in life. To have a good adult relationship, marriage, kids etc you will need the skills college teaches you to be competitive in today's workforce. Your success in college will mean more success for you and your BF later in life.

It's a great experience to live in the dorms for at least a year. You'll have an easier time meeting people and getting connected with the community. But it is usually much cheaper to live off campus.

I said "yes," meaning "yes it's possible to live together like that." I moved in with my then-boyfriend-now-husband on my second or third day of college because I didn't feel safe in my room (he had a single room in the same building). It was hard sharing such a small space, but we made it work. We got married right before senior year and lived in a small off-campus house (basically a large shed with plumbing in someone's backyard). It worked out because we paid $600/month as opposed to either $10,000/year each OR him working as an RA and me paying $10,000. We could pay the $600 easily between our on-campus jobs, but the $10,000 would have been added to our already insane loans.
Basically what I'm saying is: if you've been together for a significant length of time (a year or more IMHO, but your definition may vary), I'd totally explore it as an option. Make sure you're taking into account things like utilities, car maintenance, groceries, toiletries, etc. that you wouldn't have to buy if you lived in the dorms. Good luck with whatever you decide!!

I think that is probably a doable budget, but that is a lot of change to happen at one time.
Learning to live with someone is difficult enough on its own, but you are also going to be getting use to colege level academics that are very demanding. 
I would, personally, give it a semester at the very very least to get acustomed, but a year would probably be best.

I don't know much about your relationship so I can't tell you if you should live together. I can tell you that I worked part time and went to a university full time plus some. I split rent and bills with a roommate. I also had saved money so I could pay out of pocket for books and such...but in law school, I solely relied on loans. It's doable. You have to be determined and never give up when shit gets hard and you're exhausted, or feel like giving up.

It's not crazy go for it 2 incomes are better than 1 you guys will save more money by living together..living on campus is too expensive
