Bicornuate uterus?

We just found out that I have a bicornuate uterus. We have our appointment with maternal-fetal medicine next week to get a level 2 scan and get educated on this situation. Anyone else in the same boat?

My sister has one. She had 3 healthy babies. She also found out she has only 1 kidney snd it is linked together.

My coworker has one and has had a few miscarriages.

Uterine anomalies have varying degrees -- bicornuate can be heart shaped ❤️ or the split could go all the way down to the cervix, almost like having two uteruses. The more heart shaped you are, the better -- but you can have a healthy baby regardless. The key is where the baby implants, if the lining was good/had good blood supply there, and if it allows the baby to get into a good position. You are higher risk for csection bc if the baby is breech it's nearly impossible to turn around. You also may have a smaller birth weight, and your tummy might be lopsided. Other than that, if you're past 12 weeks, and your anatomy scan didn't reveal any concerns regarding blood flow/umbilical cord to the baby, you should be fine!

Septate uterus is more common and  more easily correctable via surgery, but has worse live birth rates than bicornuate (unless/until surgically corrected). This is due to the septum rarely having a viable lining for implantation. Bicornuate typically has a normal lining all along the heart shape. Surgery to fix bicornuate can often lead to bad scarring that actually makes pregnancy outcomes worse.

Honestly, try not to worry. You'll probably get more ultrasounds/monitoring, but that can be a good thing. (You get to see your baby more!) Lots of women with bicornuate uterus have healthy babies 👍🏻

I have one and the doctors said it very rarely causes a problem . They have given me monthly scans to keep an eye on bump just in case :)

I had a uterine septum removed . Docs originally thought it was just arcuate. Is yours definitely bicornuate? Those are much more rare than others. If so I would discuss options with your dr and if any surgical repair is possible. Good luck!

My sister-in-law also has a bicornuate and tilted uterus. She miscarried at 6-7 weeks back in July. I asked her if they talked to her doctor about future pregnancies and she said that it could be a cause of multiple miscarriages, but people also have perfectly healthy babies as well. Good luck!
