Doulas, midwives and home births

I'm considering a home birth with a midwife and maybe a doula too. For those of you that have used either and or had a home birth, do you mind sharing some stories or information, please?

History: this is my first pregnancy and I'm am very low risk with a big hospital 5 minutes away. I just don't like hospitals (I hate them really and I have very traumatic associations with them) plus a lot of the patients that go to ours are... Not people I want to be around during such an important moment for my husband and I.
