Has cancer in any way personally affected your life?

I lost my mother when I was 15 from cancer. I am not making this post to make people sorry for me , but yet to listen to others stories and how not so much how they "get over " a death by cancer. If it was someone you knew or someone you knew about. How has the C Word affected you and how can we persevere.  Love xox

My maternal grandmother had breast cancer when I was young. She died of pancreatic cancer when I was 17. After 4 years, my mother is still very sad.

I have personally gone through Hodgkin's lymphoma. While I was cured of this cancer two months ago, and while it is not the most difficult to live with, it was the hardest thing I've ever gone through in my life.

Cancer is scary. There are so many of them out there. And they can just come out of nowhere. The best thing to do is to be optimistic and have support from your loved ones. Through research that is well-funded, we can persevere as humans together.

There has been cancer in my family over the past 7 years that has changed my life completely.my grandma (Aline) was diagnosed w/Brest cancer about 7/8 years ago.she wasn't my biological grandma her and her husband (Russell) were my babysitters for me and my brother sense I was 1mth old, I am now 18.She faught& beat it.about 2years later my nana got diagnosed with Brest cancer.I was scared.nana beat the cancer after a long fight and many complications that she still felt with long after.Over this past year the topic of cancer reappeared.Russell was diagnosed him with lung cancer..Russell was a smoker for years and he probably would have been one tell they day he died if it wasn't for them spending so much time with my brother and I.So while all this is going on my nana passed her 5 year mark for beating Brest cancer but not long after that something else came up..She was diagnosed with cancer again but this time the cancer was in the brain. As the months pass things start to change, Russell is now in a hospital bed at home.He looses his appetite. Nana can still function at home and has some of her cancer on the brain removed.i went to see Russell everyday. I spent more time with him as a kid them I did with my parents.I still remember the day I got the call, I was on spring break and my dad had called me earlier to say that it wasn't looking good.I got the call that he passed away and immediately fell to the floor and started crying.I got a bloody nose and I knew it was because of my broken heart.From that moment on I have never been the same.Not even two months later my nana went into the hospital and was slowly declining.I had to say goodbye in the hospital because I lived far away. When I said goodbye to Russell my intentions were to see him again. So not even two months after Russell passed away, so did nana..This was the worse time in my life.I am still grieving from this but I have come a long way.i have 2 guardian angels to watch over me everyday.

I work for hospice so I see it all the time and it makes you value you health and the good people around you so much more! We've lost two family members within 10 months to cancer. The first was my uncle on thanksgiving last year to an unspecified cancer (it had spread so much they could only really guess where it had started) and the second was my grandma in September. I was able to distance myself from the whole thing with my uncle (which I regret in quite a few ways) but was there til the very end for my grandma. She wanted to stay home and I was there 20 hours a day until she passed so that she was able to stay home.  It sucks to watch someone die from cancer but  all you can do is support them thru the fight.

I lost my father figure (uncle) to cancer! He was such an awesome guy!! He passed almost 5 years ago. This is him in abate magazine! He loved his Harley!! Miss him so much❤️❤️

I am a cancer survivor myself so yes, it certainly has impacted my entire life! I will never be the same. But because of it, I met the love of my life who I now get to share a last name with! Love your health and your hair ladies ❤️

My mother passed away when I was 10 and also my grandfather in the same month. She was my best friend. My parents were separated and I hated my father at the time. Changed living arrangements, schools, moved away from my friends and family. It hit hard. Two years later my Nana also passes away from a long battle with cancer. She was the last person that really made an effort with me. So at 10-12 being all alone sucks so much. Yes there's people to 'talk to' but it doesn't fix the problem now does it. I believe that everything happens for a reason. It's a reality check. You never get over anyone dying but you have to focus on the happy times they had. You have to focus on you. Put your energy into something that keeps you busy and happy. Some people go down the road of drugs and make there life doom and gloom. But I know it sounds hard but you just have to be positive about it. But have your break downs where for the whole day you cry and feel bad. You need to let it out. To answer your question I miss my mother, grandfather and Nana every single day but I know where ever they are they will be happy to watch me grow as a person and make something out of my life.
