More experience than my BF

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 8 months. He's 18 and I'm 17. I was his first kiss and he was the 7th guy I've kissed. We have been fighting a lot lately so we decided to take a break. He said he feels embarrassed that he's only kissed one girl and that he isn't as experienced as me. He said he wants to "catch up" to me and my number. Which I think is stupid because I don't want to be with him if he kissed someone else. He said he still loves me and wants to be with me after but I couldn't look at him the same if he did hook up with someone else. I don't get it because he's fingered me and eaten me out and we almost had sex so I don't understand why he doesn't think he's experienced.
