Intersex is probably one of the most "clear" examples of how the gender binary is not always applicable. There are people born with both gender sex organs, people born with an amalgamation, and others born without almost any. Then there are those who may have been born with a particular sex organ, but their brain structure is of the opposite gender. Intersex (among others in addition to the binary) should be a valid option when presented with gender on a form. The move advanced science becomes, the more we're learning that the historical understandings we've held are growing more and more incomplete.

I thought this was really interesting. I think most of us with a little bit of reading and exposure to diversity can accept that the M/F binary isn't always clear-cut or predetermined (even if we can't personally relate). So, what do you think about this person being denied access based on not wanting to identify with a specific gender? It seems like a human rights violation to me, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Really not that complicated-people are biologically born intersex. They need to allow an intersex option.

They shouldn't be first. Their not choosing doesn't harm anyone and it is their identity. Who is the governments to force someone to alter their own identity?

So here's a topic my wife and I have discussed a few times. She is mTf and wants gender defined on drivers licenses and passports. I do think having a gender on these two things would be acceptable since they aren't primarily used for medical information. However, they can be. If something happens to you and you had your gender (say you put female even if you're a intact biological male) they could possibly have issues after bringing you to the hospital. So personally, I think "gender? M or F" needs to be taken off these documents and they all need to be replaced with "sex? M or F" if they could possibly be looked at for medical information or body identification. Many documents already do. 
It's not pleasant, it's unlikely that anything will happen, and my wife my disagree with me but I feel it could be safer.

Does "it" feel better than he or she?   It wouldnt be "they" or "them" because that signifies plurality... So.it.doesnt want a gender... When does people stop making choices and science define these constructs?  Gender is social but sex is biological... If we are going to be logical then why do i have to call my baby a fetus if another persn doesnt have to dignify with a sex?  When does biology take over on social constructs?

I think they shouldn't have to choose. They were born intersex, with no gender on the birth certificate, so it's weird that they're expected to choose one.
