Names?

Question

My husband and I already have girl and boy first names but aren't telling people because opinions are like a$$holes - everyone's got one! What do you think? I just know alot of very strong opinionated people who may put a damper on the names we chose but if we tell them when the baby is born, they won't be negative because they baby is here!

Roxy my husband and I feel the same way! We already have our boy name and girl name but will be keeping it to ourselves until baby is born. We've already been through so much with IVF that we don't need more people giving us their opinions haha

Roxy I agree with your rationale. We know so much already (gender and I need another c-section) it seems like keeping the name private until the baby is here provides a dramatic surprise! Plus, like you said people are less likely to say negative things once the moniker is announced.
I made the mistake of tossing around names with my mother in law; even after I said "Oh I really don't think it's a good idea, because people always say something like "I knew a person named that and they were....." I shared a few I considered including a name that was true to our heritage that I'd never heard before.  The next night she blurts out, oh you can't name the baby that name, our friends ex-wife was named that!  We can't send him a Christmas card with that name, he'll think our grandchild is named after his ex-wife!  Seriously- spoiled the whole name for me.   Thankfully my husband didn't like the name anyway. But a good reminder to keep my mouth shut!
I am a pediatric nurse, now administrator, so it's important to me to have a name I don't associate with a patient or anyone I know.
Thankfully my husband and I agreed on a name last Friday ! It was serendipitous!  He had read the name in the paper that day and I was delighted because it was first on my list! We still have to think of the middle name, but it's sweet to refer to our baby girl by name !

Funny.....I just had someone in the family give me some suggestions for names and I am utterly disgusted by her suggestions! Is this too much ???  I mean my goodness!!!! I'm the last of the bunch to get pregnant now everyone is sooooo excited and throwing baby names at me and advice on how to parent already.  Is it selfish to say that I want my own moment to shine or enjoy my first ever pregnancy ?

We're not telling anyone either Roxy, for that reason and because we want to have something to keep between us. Because people and our immediate families knew we were doing IVF, our close circle found our we were pregnant way sooner than we normally would have told anyone. It's nice to now have something sacred.

Yeah, once you start getting opinions, it's a disaster! We have a short list. And the name I liked the most- was loudly objected to by my mother-in-law. Now, my husband and I are leaning towards another name and the grandmas seem okay with it. Hahaha. Not telling anyone else now!
