Emilia's birth story

Becca
What a birth!  I went to the doctor at 8:30am, had my induction date set for Wednesday and on the drive home started getting contractions.  By the time I got home they were 10mins apart.  2 hours later they were 3 minutes apart and I made my husband come home from work.  Since I had just been to the OB when I called to say I was in labor they made me come back to the OB office to be checked - I was 100% effaced, she was at 0station and I was 5cm!  It was moving SO fast.  I went to the hospital and my labs took 2 hours to complete because they couldn't get an IV started or blood drawn (I have bad veins).  I finally got a spinal - and it failed!  I then got an epidural and a bolster which numbed my legs completely but I could still feel back pain and contractions.  By 10pm I was 10cm, 100% effaced and in 0 station.  They had me "labor down" to try to get her to move lower into the birth canal.  My epidural wasn't working and I was in so much pain.  By 1am, she hadn't moved so they had me try pushing.  I got her to +2 station and my contractions completely stopped.  For an hour I didn't have a single contraction but had tons of back pain and pressure.  They decided to start pitocin to try to get things moving again.  Every 15mins they would increase the pitocin but nothing was happening.  By 6am they had increased the pitocin to a 5 and I was contracting and ready to push again.  Having been stuck so long and with the added drugs she became distressed and I needed to be put on oxygen.  I pushed for 3 hours and it was determined she was stuck behind my pelvic bone.  They decided to give me an episiotomy and use a vacuum to help her out.  At 9:34am she came screaming into the world face up.  Since she was under so much stress the pediatric team were there to immediately assess her and we didn't get to cut the cord or have immediate skin on skin. She pooped on her way out and all over the doctor who delivered her.  Both of us had fevers and needed to be monitored.  It was SO scary.  I was so happy when they finally put her in my arms I cried.  We have both been doing great since, but what a journey into this world.
