Maternity leave?

Do school systems typically offer lid maternity leave? I haven't been able to talk to my hr person because they've just been let go and we don't have someone replacing them yet so I'd like to sorta have an idea of what I'm facing in a few months lol. What's your experience been?

In nyc we had the opportunity to get paid for 6 weeks natural or 8 weeks c-section as long as you had enough sick days in your bank to cover them... After that you can continue your leave for an additional 6 or 4 weeks of fmla...you don't get paid but keep your health benefits ... Anything past 12 weeks is no pay or benefits... You can only get disability for legit medical reasons with extensive documentation ... And you are not allowed to use any extra days you may have in your bank beyond the 6 or 8 weeks worth

Each district is different.  It depends on what the union negotiated with the district.   Ours is terrible.  We can take leave under FMLA.  However the first 30 days are unpaid.   You are tequired to use any PTO/sick bank (9days).  Then after 30 days you can apply for short term disability (if your doc fills out the paperwork) and get paid 60% for the remainder of the allowed time. (Again, that's only if your approved.   If not you get nothing).    Again.  Each school district is different.   Good luck.

It may be different depending where you live but this is how it worked for me here in California. Since I don't pay into Social Security or state disability I could not get maternity leave through the state EDD. Instead our district allows us to use all our banked sick/personal necessity time and then pays us up to 100 half days after that's been exhausted. Again, that's just how it worked for me though because maternity leave/FMLA is typically covered by the state here in CA. Maybe ask your OB if she has any idea of how it should work out?
