iud help

I recently had the copper coil fitted. I'm bleeding like crazy so I went to the doctors and was given Azithromycin ... For STI!! About 18 months ago I was checked and was in the clear. And when I had the coil fitted I was also checked again (too soon for results)

I'm just worried why I was given this medicine without the doctor checking for anything? Is that normal?
