Colposcopy?!?!

I have to have one this month after an abnormal pap.  I'm extremely nervous. What should I expect?

A colposcopy is similar to a Pap smear but they usually are just looking at your cervix, not taking a sample. If there is evidence of cell changes they might take a biopsy which hurts. My gyn told me to cough when she did it which distracted me. Colposcopies are fine, don't stress!

It's uncomfortable and you feel pinching I guess you could call it. Nothing too painful.

I do have to get a biopsy... Did you have that? What do they do with it and is there any special recovery time?

I have to have one too and I am SUPER nervous. Can you explain what it is they do? I believe it's not knowing that is kind of unnerving.

I was fine. Didn't hurt, was a bit uncomfortable but not painful. Good luck

I had one last month. It was quite long, involved a very deep swab and I was cauterised. I felt nauseous afterwards, but I was very tense throughout the procedure, which didn't help. I had bad cramps that evening and the next day. I bled for 7 days after it was done.

Oh I had a not nice experience it I'm a wuss.  Take the whole day off work if you can.

I have an irregular pap smear all the time so I get checked every 6 months. I've had several colposcopies. They're different for everyone but it's a bit uncomfortable I usually take a couple advil afterwards to help with discomfort and wear a pad. It's not horrible though.

I just had one yesterday, which included a biopsy. The biopsy was a bit painful (more than just the "pinching" I was told it would be) and midway through the cramps became pretty severe to the point where I became nauseated. I was cramping most of the night and still have cramping today. Take LOTS of painkillers and remember to eat beforehand. I hadn't eaten in a while which made me weak. But I survived and am feeling a bit better now!
