I wouldn't get involved with someone who had kids already ... I don't like the dynamic. I have friends who have and are very happy though.

Wow, this poll is so sad to me! My stepson is like my own child, and that's even though he doesn't live with us! I was lucky to meet him when he was two years old though, so I don't know about the challenges of getting to know an older child. I don't think that a person must get along great with step children, but it is such a joy when it works out.

I'll be honest. I don't have the best relationship with my step daughter. We are not close. It's hard to get a connection. Her mom has made her into a very difficult little girl and we might not ever be close. But with that said. I do not treat her different then the other kids. Like at Christmas I buy them all the same amount of presents. I buy her the exact same things my daughter has. All the kids have the same rules. I will never single her out. But I'm not going to be in senior or put up a front. I'm not that found of her. And not because she is my husbands daughter from a previous marriage, but because she is very difficult and not very welcoming. But I tell my husband. Every week she's here I'll start new and not hold a grudge. I do start fresh. But you know being a stepmom is not all rainbows and butterflies it never gets easy. And you don't fall head over heals for every kid just because there kids.
