When do I avoid sex?

I'm on the pill but I want to be extra careful by avoiding sex when it's a high risk. Does that mean I have to avoid sex when I'm ovulating? I'm confused about the terms: fertility, ovulation, cycle days. I'm so confused!!! Please help. How do I know how many days to avoid sex?

The pill can either contain progesterone or estrogen and progesterone. Let's say if you take the pill incorrectly or not consistent with it then there's a chance of ovulating. But progesterone tells your ovaries to sleep. I use FAM so I know when to avoid sex based on that days fertility signs.

You don't ovulate on the pill. And even if you happened to have breakthrough ovulation, you wouldn't be able to predict it. If you don't fully trust the pill to do its job, then use a condom.

You actually still ovulate... The pill merely suppresses the hormones allowed to support a fertilized egg. The pill suppresses the hormone prostaglandin which helps with follicle development (the follicle holds the egg) as well as progesterone which tells your brain if the egg has been fertilized. 
To be direct though, it's unlikely to get pregnant while you're on the pill. But to answer your question, ovulation is the release of the egg from your ovary into the uterine horns. Your fertil period is when you are at higher risk of getting pregnant because your hormones are at their peak. So if you are trying to practice both methods of the plan and NFP avoid sex during your fertile window. Btw... The last 3 days or so is when your fertility is the highest.

You don't ovulate on the combination pill. There is a 50% chance on the mini pill but it can't be tracked and doesn't put you at higher risk for pregnancy. If you're a perfect user, you can have sex any day at any time as much as you want, even during your break week. This is explained in your pamphlet. You seem to not understand how birth control works so I definitely recommend that you read that. 
Just think about it. Why would they make something that is to protect against pregnancy but make it not work certain times in a month? Doesn't make sense. Birth control is made to protect you all the time unless you misuse it. No condoms are needed at any time unless you miss a pill and your pamphlet says it is necessary.
