Is giving or getting hickeys after your teenage years still okay?

My SO asks for them and likes getting hickeys in visible areas. I on the other hand don't like getting them anywhere. We're in our mid 20's and I've heard hickeys are a no go after your teenage years or ever for that matter. What do you all think?
