Hcg after miscarriage

I was just wondering how long it took for people's hcg to go back down after a miscarriage. I had an ectopic a month ago and I'm going to Thailand tomorrow. I was going to test just to make sure I'm not pregnant before I go, but heard that it may still show positive due to my previous pregnancy.
