Natural birth in hospital setting?! Advice!

Hi all!

I'm 27 weeks with my second pregnancy. Im going to have my baby in a traditional hospital setting however I REALLY want to go the natural route (no epidural, no pitocin, etc.). I've heard, however, it's somewhat challenging to try to have a natural birth in a traditional hospital setting, like the nurses and stuff may try to push certain policies such as no walking around, having to stay on monitors, etc. Anybody been in a similar situation and can provide some advice?? Thanks so much!!

Choose the right hospital. Find one that will let you be off monitor and walk, use aromatherapy, take a shower...

Find a doula. Bring her with. And remember that you can say no to anything. I told my SO that his job is to respond to every question from the medical professionals with "no, thanks" and "why". It depends strongly on the hospital, too, so research your hospitals. Be really nice about it because upsetting the doctors and nurses will make everything much harder, and they are just trying to help, they've just probably never seen much in the way of natural births.

Definitely get a doula! And discuss your natural plan with your doc. Tell her your concerns. It's definitely possible but yes it may be a little struggle. That's where a doula will come in very handy.

Talk to your doctor about having a birth plan first. Make one up, print it out and have a family member or close friend that is going to be with you responsible for making sure everyone that enters your room gets a copy.

You have the right to say no to an IV and fetal monitoring. You have the right to say no to drugs. You have the right to have the birth that you want for your baby. Make sure your SO or birth partner is on the same page and will support you so they can say no for you.
