Period help...

Ok so my period never showed and the doctor has given me some medicine to take to jump start it but still hasn't shown. Has anyone gotten something from the doctor like this? And if so how long did it take to go into effect. Suppose to start my period and regulate me..... We've been ttc for almost 8 months now. :(
