What to expect at first ob appointment after blood test

1st time pregnancy - currently 6w4d and have an appointment at exactly 7w. I am 25 and a diabetic. We already had it confirmed by a blood test - there's a baby in there! I just wanted to see what some of the other veteran moms experienced at their first ob appointment after having their pregnancy confirmed. I have no idea what to expect! Will we get to hear baby's heart beat? Perhaps an ultrasound? Any input would be helpful!

Congrats! I work at an OBGYN office 😀 you should begin your appointment with an ultrasound where you will see the baby and hear heartbeat. You will then meet with a nurse go over yours and the baby's fathers health history and blood work. Final part you will meet with the doctor and go over any questions you might have!! You should have an ultrasound, most places do one between 7-8 but others wait until 12. I would think since they've already confirmed with a blood test and scheduled your first appointment for 7 weeks, they're planning on doing an ultrasound. At my 8 wk check with my first you couldn't hear the heart beat but they can tell you the rate so you'll know it's beating and all is well. By your 12 week appointment, sometimes earlier depending on where the baby is and your placenta is, you may hear the heartbeat at 10 weeks. A very exciting time thay first appt and you get a lot of info about how often you come, what to expect each visit, signs and symptoms of pregnancy each week and trimester and what you can do and what to avoid.
