Midwife or Traditional OB/GYN???

This may not be especially controversial but I'm just looking for some insight on the pros & cons of both a Midwife and a Traditional OB/GYN Dr. Which did you use & what was your experience like? Give it to me straight, ladies! And thanks!! 💕💕

I highly highly reccomend watching the business of being born!! It changed my perspective completely on medicated vs natural births and it's definitely something more women should be educated on! That being said it's always a personal preference and a lot of women are more comfortable giving birth in a hospital, etc. just make sure to do your research and good luck :)

Well my mom is a midwife and my dad was an ob/gyn and they had a practice together. My mom really enjoyed having a doctor to back her up if a pregnancy became high risk. My mom assisted on c-sections but also was the woman to bring water births to her hospital. I think midwives tend to be more open to your birth plan, whether that be natural or not, and doctors tend to be more scientific. They made a great team together and I think most offices with midwives tend to operate similarly. I would just make sure the midwives have a doctor to back them up for emergencies if you went that route! Good luck!

My preference is a Midwife. Where I live obgyn's are too quick for surgical procedures and pushing meds on ya. Instead of giving you the actual Choice..they make you feel bad if you don't do things Their way and tend to pressure you.

i'm seeing a midwife. i started out with an ob and switched due to research/my experience and i couldn't have made a better decision. i'm a ftm with a low risk pregnancy, wanting a personal relationship with my caretaker & a home birth. my midwife is always answering my texts, no matter the day or time, is extremely educated, and our appointments are never rushed. i'm loving the experience.

I've used 1 certified midwife at home, 1 lay midwife at home, 1 certified midwife in a hospital, and 1 doctor in a hospital. That is how I would rank my experiences as well.

Why choose? My practice has both giving options for both depending on how the pregnancy progresses and your choices. I think there are options that give us the best of both worlds. I also recommend a doula.

I actually went with a Family Medicine doctor. She also is an OB/GYN, but was able to see me through my pregnancy and now sees my daughter. It's nice because she knows how my pregnancy and delivery went, so no explanation to a new doctor.

But had a home birth been an option, I would have gone with a Midwife.

It's just a matter of personal preference usually.

I'd like to try a OB/GYN with my first child but try a Midwife for my second child. I'd also like to have a baby in a birth center.

I prefer midwives. They have just been more personal and one on one with me. However the ob/gyn I had with my daughter was wonderful. I just didn't like the hospital she delivered at.
