Testing before ttc after 2mc

We just had our 2nd miscarriage last Friday. The doctor says we now have to wait 6-8 weeks before we can start testing. We've asked exactly what to expect with the "testing" and all he says is we will start out with blood work. We just don't know what to expect or if we should expect answers or not. How soon can we start trying again or should we wait until all the testing is completely done?!
