I've only had mine for a month, and the first few times we had sex everything was fine and normal, but we decided to have period sex (because I've had a crazy long on-again-off-again period since the Paragard insertion and we cannot keep our hands off each other) and he felt the strings and said it kinda hurt, not terrible but definitely ruined the mood. I read somewhere that our uterus is lower in our bodies during periods? So that might have been the reason.

My boyfriend has felt it, and still does sometimes in doggy and in missionary if I dip my hips up. It doesn't hurt him he just says it can be uncomfortable so we just change positions

He should be able to feel the stings at first for sure, but once you go in for a follow up, the doctor can trim the stings for you
