I have to share my story
Ladies! If you've been trying to get pregnant for a while now and have irregular cycles and you've sought infertility doctors with no answers then you need to read this! Sorry this is a little long, but WAY worth the read!
My husband and I got married last October. I have a son who is now five from a previous relationship and he had never had kids so we started trying to have a baby right away. Well here it is, November, and we still have not gotten pregnant!
In may of 2013 I spoke with my primary care physician at the time about my irregular cycles. They would be literally anywhere between 45-60 days long. So I was put on metformin twice a day. Didn't help at all. Went back in January and she upped it to three times a day. Still didn't work! So I went to my ob/gyn. Well he suggested going to an infertility doctor. I did. I did all the blood work, had an hsg done, my husband got checked. EVERYTHING came back NORMAL! So what was the answer I got? You MIGHT have PCOS...... MIGHT?!?!? I know I didn't pay well over $1,000 in two months to get a "might" diagnosis. I've never in my life had cysts, pelvic pain, none of that! My cycles were actually VERY regular before I met my husband.
So of course I got extremely depressed, talked to my husband and he said to get a second opinion. So I found a new primary doctor that specializes in women's health and hormones. It took one visit and one tube of blood work to find out what was wrong..... LOW PROGESTERONE! He says most doctors check progesterone levels at the wrong time of your cycle. It should should be checked on day 21 of your cycle. There is a smaller window of what is considered normal progesterone levels at that time.
And the best part is that it's a simple and fast fix! Just take progesterone hormones! I was so happy I could cry. I will be going in for a follow up appointment this Thursday to start my treatment. Just one step closer to baby number 2!
