What do you do when your husband

Buys something expensive for himself and doesn't talk to you about it? We don't have the means to be buying expensive "wants" right now, but he bought this item on his credit card. If we had the money I wouldn't be so upset about it. How do you all handle it?

Go and buy something of equal value for yourself, don't open it just keep it aside with the receipt so you can take it back later. Let him see how it affects you both..

I don't dictate what my husband purchases with his money. He works hard and pays most of the bills so when he wants something for himself he gets it. If it's a big expensive thing he usually tells me but I would never tell him no he can't.

I'd sit down with him and tall to him about my concerns about the financial stress. I'd ask that he speak to me before big purchases and promise to do the same. Some couples suggest a dollar amount, like I will give you a heads up or ask your opinion on purchases above $100 for example.

Sit down with him and calmly explain why you're upset. Once you explain that it's not because you don't want him to have nice things but because you can't afford to go into debt just for "wants," hopefully he will see things through your eyes.

My hubby and I have a deal that if either one of us want something over $100 we have to discuss it with the other first (unless it is a gift for the other but we still set a limit on that stuff as well) we have to much stuff we want to do with our money to spend it on frivolous things we both don't see necessary. Just talk to him and tell him how you feel and maybe see if you guys can come to some sort of agreement like ours. It really does seem to help.

My husband did that when we first got married and told me after he bought it. He did put it on his debit card and we did have the extra money for it, but it was just the principal of it. I was really upset and we had a long conversation about it. We decided anytime a large purchase needed to be made we would talk about it first. Now we've been married 5 years and this isn't an issue anymore lol.

I don't really monitor his spending and he doesn't monitor mine. We don't have combined debt and we both work very hard for our money. We are just now about to blend finances after a year of marriage, with a baby due in February.

After a long discussion it was decided (mostly by him) that I shouldn't work for awhile. Currently I handle the finances and he makes the money. Usually he asks if we have enough for him to do the things he wants to do. Lately his work has been slowing down with winter coming. I know there are things he wants so I'm looking for work. He busts his ass, he should be able to have money to spend on himself.
