Breastfeeding with Pcos?

Anyone know how it works? Are we able to? Are there things to up supply?

I have PCOS. I was worried about this too. But my milk came in very quickly, less than 2 days after delivering, and we've had no problems with breastfeeding!

Now this is something else for me to research! I hadn't really thought about PCOS causing problems with breastfeeding.

I'm pregnant with my first and been on Metformin the whole pregnancy I've heard it can help. Also read fengruike (sp?) and blessed thistle can help. I plan on taking those as soon as she's delivered and eating oatmeal at least once a day.

When I had my son it took 4 days for my milk to come in (which isn't uncommon with c-sec and was really only an issue days 3-4 because before that he was getting colostrum) but after that I never had any supply issues and nursed exclusively for a year and kept a stocked freezer. There are many women without PCOS that have a low supply and there are a lot of ways to try and boost it if necessary...oatmeal, flax seed, brewer's yeast, mother's milk tea, and fenugreek are the most common. I think a lot of the info out there leads PCOS moms to believe it's most likely they won't be able to breastfeed and other than myself I've known several that have done so without any more issues than anyone else. There's TONS of breastfeeding info online, specifically a site called kellymom that is super helpful. At first nursing was challenging and frustrating but it gets significantly easier by 3 months and I very much loved the nursing relationship I had with my son that first year. With my first my milk never came in I'm praying that with my second it comes in! I've been on metformin for like 5 years and I'll be on it for my whole pregnancy since I have gestational diabetes so hopefully it helps!

I have PCOS and I breastfeed my son exclusively. I actually have engorgment problems.

heard that eating pineapple will help you go into labor and start your milk too.... I've heard great stuff about frengeek too.

Don't get upset or feel bad if your milk doesn't totally come in. For some with pcos this happens. Supplementing still means your baby is getting some breast milk. It will all work out

i think its just a matter of wait and see cause even without pcos some women dont produce a whole
lot or arent able to breastfeed for diffrent reasons, and could also drpen on how severe your case is and how well managed it is. and a usual any question talk to the dr. or a lactaction specialist.
