Any LPNs here???

Question

Hi LPN people! I have a few questions to ask about the career as an LPN. I am in school for it now.

1. Are you treated differently because you aren't an RN?
2. Is the pay decent?
3. What department or ward are you in?

Hi Courtney!! I had my LPN for almost 4 years before I got my RN. I live in Ohio....around me most hospitals don't hire LPNs. LPN license is different in every state with what you can do. I worked in long term/skilled nursing. You make decent money at a facility like that. The pay drastically decreases going into a doctor office or similar. When I received my RN I came to a hospital. I am on nights so there is a nice shift differential however if I was on dayshift it was only a 50 cent pay increase from my LPN to RN. I don't feel I treated any different from medical field however I was treated differently from patients and family/friends only because they are uneducated about what a LPN can actually do.

I am from Texas, so I am an LVN. I work in home health, and I make a good living. I would say it is worth your time to become an LPN, and after you graduate start prerequisites for RN and get that after. I regret not getting my RN just because there are more job opportunities for an RN where I live, but I have never had a problem getting a job with good pay. Get your 2 years hospital experience after you graduate and know your worth and you will make a decent living as an LPN.

I am an LPN in Va and the pay is decent and we have good RNs and bad. You'll deal with those that are better than you because they are an RN. I am a corrections nurse and LTC.

My hubby is an LPN. Yes the pay is very different. There aren't many hospital jobs for LPNs. He has always worked in either home health care or assisted living facilities. He is planning to go back for his RN soon.

State to state it's different. They phase LPNs out then bring them back.

I am a RN! In the state of PA..there is a list of things a LPN is not able to do. Also, being a RN..I can see a difference on how they are treated. They are slowly doing away with them in my facility and no longer hiring them.

Any LPNs here???
