Depending on how bad your split ends are you might not need to cut it. If there bad you should cut it or your hair won't be able to grow because it will start breaking off n splitting further up to your roots. If there not that bad you can do protein treatments for the ends of your hair so it slows down the rate that your hair will split. Protein treatments are suppose to be done at least once a month but no more then 2 a month. The protein treatment I do is normally 1-2eggs and a few tablespoons of olive oil. Also doing protective styles will help grow your hair out because it's low maintenance and will protect your ends. Don't forget to condition your hair when needed and when you shampoo your hair only shampoo your roots not your hair shaft. Try and switch to a sulfate free shampoo. When you get out the shower take a old t-shirt to dry your hair instead of a towel because a towel will try out your hair and take away the natural moisture from your hair. Doing scalp massages is also good for growing hair because it stimulates the hair follicle. You can massage your scalp with a oil (coconut oil, grape seed oil, etc.) or without a oil. When you go to bed instead of a Cotten pillow case get a silk one or instead of a Cotten head tie or head wrap use a silk one, so when you move around in your sleep you won't be damaging your hair.Lastly hair grows from the inside out so maybe take some daily multivitamin, drink more water, exercise and have a healthier diet.I don't know what type of hair texture you have so I can't give you to much details but that's some general hair care things that I've learned in my hair journey and I'm happy to share it with you. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get long healthy hair.

I only get my hair cut every 6 months to a year and never get split ends, my hair is about boob length. First, go to a hairdressers and get the current splits cut off, then use as little heat on your hair as possible. I towel dry my hair and twist it up into a bun and leave it to dry overnight. I VERY rarely use straighteners or curlers, and only wash it every 3/4 days.
