Can you store milk in regular bottles??

Question

I'm a FTM and I don't have my pump yet because I'm suppose to get a free one through my insurance ( my baby is only 4 days old) but my breast became engorged so I started hand expressing my milk out. I figured why waste milk ( I produce about 3 oz each time between my 2 breasts). I don't have the storage containers because I was going to wait to get them to see what brand my pump is. Anyways I'm hand expressing into regular bottles ( tommee tippee) and I am freezing the milk, does anyone know if it's okay to do it this way? Or should I just "pump & dump" until I get storage bottles?

You can buy storage bags you don't have to worry about bags that go with a certain pump. I've heard that freezing your bottles can cause them to crack.

I would go grab some storage bags. They aren't expensive and don't have to be pump specific

I've heard that you shouldn't allow air into the bags when they're being frozen, so I'd assume that freezing in the bottle would still have air at the top of the bottle :/ I would avoid that!

I use lanisoh storage bags. They are specifically made for storing breast milk. I put them in a plastic container and store in my freezer. The trouble with bottles is that they can crack or some of the chemicals can leech into your milk since they aren't made for storage. I only store in bottles when I store in the fridge to use within a couple days just for easy access for my husband.

Be careful with expressing your engorged breast right now. In the 1st week, your supply is trying to figure our how much/little you need. For every bit you "pump" out, your body thinks it needs to replace it. Thus if your baby is only drinking a couple ounces & you are expressing 3oz, your body is going to think you need all of that, instead of adjusting about 5 days after your supply comes in. Hope that makes sense...just don't want you to set yourself up to have quite engorged breasts throughout the whole process.
