8 days late. HPT and blood test are negative

So AF was supposed to arrive last week and has yet to show. Of course I've been thinking I might be pregnant. I took a target store brand early result test (it was all I had) when I was 4 days late...negative. I also just happened to have a physical with my doctor when I was 5 days late, so he did a blood test...also negative. I am now 8 days late and not signs of her. The nurse told me to wait two more weeks and call my obgyn for more blood work if my period doesn't show. The waiting is killing me and I'm so confused!  Has anyone had a similar experience??? What was the outcome? Also, if like to pick up some more HPTs. I've heard first response redesigned theirs and the new ones suck. What do you ladies recommend for a sensitive test?
