Experience with Depo?

Hey everyone! What are your experiences with the depo shot? I have contemplated starting that form of birth control. Any advice would be great!

I was on the depo for 4 years, loved every minute of it! Didn't have a period for the whole four years... Now that I'm thinking about conceiving in the next few years I decided to stop getting the shots. After I missed a shot it took 8 months for me to get a period!! And the side effects were awful. Mood swings, cramps, pains, etc.. I finally got my period for 3 weeks after the 8 months went by. But now everything seems regular. Although things were so whacky after coming off of it, I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested!!

I love mine. I took bc pills for almost 8 years and the mood swings were getting pretty bad. I tried nuvaring but was too sensitive for it. I took a year off from the pill and once i felt more stable (and was once again in a relationship) asked my doc for recommendations. Tried the nuvaring, but that didnt work.

She assured me that it is estrogen that causes mood swings like mine, and that with just progestoren in the depo, it would be fine. A small number of people do have light bleeding for the first few months as your body adjusts-- with depo you dont usually , get periods so its an adjustment, just like if you took all bc pills and never any of the sugar.

I am loving it. Had the spotting but I feel so much more even keeled and its one b of the best bc methods, so far as contraception goes, because you dont need to remember a pill or patch or to replace your nuvaring. I've been on it four months, almost five, and I dont ever want to go back.

It was terrible, I had 3 rounds of the shot and I bled for 4 months straight. It was the never ending light period from hell. My hormones went all wacky too. Once my period went away completely (what a relief) I went from passive, peace loving party girl to a raging ball of fury. I couldn't control the emotional roller coaster , I was so angry all the time. It took 7 months for my period to come back once I stopped using it. Never going back.

My sister was on it last year and bled the whole time she had it and she absolutely hated it and didn't go back for another after the second shot. My gyn wouldn't even recommend it to me she said they're really bad and she won't give them to anyone
