How long is too long to wait to hear I love you?

My boyfriend and I just hit our year mark and he's never said I love you. There is a 10 year age difference and in the last 10 years he didn't have a serious relationship. I want to tell him that I love him but I honestly don't wanna feel rejected if he doesn't say anything back.

A friend of mine just got engaged and it was the first time she got those words from her boyfriend, now fiancé. It all depends on how long you're willing to wait and when they feel comfortable to tell you. My boyfriend said it hours after we started dating but I wasn't comfortable until a month after. It's different for everyone. Maybe ask them how they feel about it?

My husband and I were dating for a year and hadn't said it. Finally I said to him "there's something I've wanted to tell you for a while but I'm not sure if you're ready to hear it."  I didn't even have to says the words and he told me he loved me too.  He told me that he had wanted to say it, just was afraid.  Your boyfriend might just be scared too.
