4 weeks pregnant and cold medicine??? Help!!

Question

Hi everyone...I'm currently 4 weeks & 5 days pregnant. (Finally got my bfp!)
I have been congested and coughing since last night....
This is my first time being pregnant and I haven't been able to see a doctor yet...
Which cold medicines do you use?? 
I found Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom in my cupboard....can I take that while pregnant???

Anything with tylenol...tylenol cold, sinus, congestion, cold and flu etc! Or Robatesin DM (however you spell it), and musinex.... I had a BAD head cold around 6 weeks with this pregnancy and those are some that my Dr. approved

You're not suppose to take any type of medicine until you reach the 2nd trimester as the 1st trimester is easiest to hurt the baby. Once in the 2nd trimester you can take Tylenol and the one kind of Sudafed which is only over the counter at the pharmacy and has to be signed for. I'm currently sick and went to the pharmacist last night asking this exact question.

You can take Benadryl & once you get to fourteen weeks you can take sudafed, but not the PE kind. I am eighteen weeks & this is what my OBGYN has told me. I've been sick four times since I got pregnant & yes, it is miserable. Hope you feel better soon!

My aunt has been a labour and delivery nurse for her entire career. I had a cold around week five. She said absolutely no cough syrup/ medicine is safe. The only medicine that is safe during pregnancy, she said, is tylonel. Even then, I'd still rather take nothing. I had my cold for 9 days. Yes it sucked, I slept a lot, and had to take time off from work, but I had peace of mind knowing the baby wasn't effected in any way.

Try a neti pot. It really works. Yes it's a little gross, but so is blowing your nose. I also recommend hot water with honey and lemon juice for a sore throat.

You can take mucinex or anything with Tylenol. Nothing with ibuprofen.

I like everyone's response. This is what my obgyn said, this is what my doctor said. Just because any doctor says this and that doesnt make it safe or right. So my advice to you is to call the hospital that you will be going to. Talk to an on call nurse and ask them. You can even ask labor and delivery. That way you can make the decision thats best for you.
