NICU EBF & 2 neosure bottles: when to introduce bottle?

Hi,

My daughter is a preemie. 3 weeks (35 weeks) on Monday. breastfeeding is going great!! She latches & averaging about 20 m a session.

Here is my struggle. They asked about introducing bottles. I'm terrified to start bc bf has been going so great but i know she will need 2 neosure bottles a day so we will have to introduce at some point. Has anyone had this experience & still had success with nursing? Did it go downhill after introducing a bottle? Is it possible to back to ebfing? Just looking for any sort of guidance.

My daughter wouldn't latch for the first 4 weeks. She was bottle breast milk fed. At that time she finally started latching. Now I have no problem with latching or bottle :) she's 10 weeks Monday. So I started backwards and haven't had an issue.

Just make sure you are using a good bottle that will teach her to continue sucking like she needs to at the breast (we use Dr Browns for this reason) and also look up "paced bottling" for a video that will show you how to feed her that is breastfeeding supportive. Good luck! We had to use bottles early on and she is now going back and forth to both easily because we follow these principles.

I work in the NICU...Usually it's given for the extra calories...so after your munchkin gets a little bigger and weight gain is steady, you can discuss with your pediatrician stopping the neosure all together and continue with breast milk and see how it goes. Either way don't give up on Breast milk 😊😊😊 great job and congrats!!!!!
