What was the point?

I don't understand what the point of me having a baby shower if no one planned on coming? Out of 80 something people,6 showed up. We have nothing for the baby we were trying to wait until after the shower to get anything. All we got was a few outfits and about 7 blankets. No diapers or baby wash or bottles or anything. I guess you truly do find out who your friends are. Just upsets me really bad we kind of we're looking forward to this because we have been struggling the past few months with income due to no work. So now I'm even more stressed out.

Sad to say but a baby shower is not an obligation to others as it might be to you. This is my second child and I've never planned one for myself because people will be people. I'd rather someone plan it for me to take the pressure off so at least if no one shows up it's not my problem. You should not even had depended on them to show up to supply you with stuff for your child. Go ahead and get the job done. Atleast next time you'll know better.

The point was to celebrate your child, not for gifts. No one should ever have a baby shower and expect that everything their baby needs will be bought, it's great if it happens, but it shouldn't be an expectation. Everyone's life doesn't stop because you are having a baby, people have other things they need to handle and other obligations they need to attend to. Be grateful for why you did get instead and shift gears and start getting the stuff you still need.

My mom made the comment to me after I complained to her about the rudeness of my husband's family since none of them RSVP'd for my shower which is in two weeks that since he had kids from his first marriage they might not recognize this shower. Sort of like one and done.
Well, his daughter is thirteen! Even if it was the same marriage I'd think a shower would be warranted. Not to mention this is our first child. When my brother remarried and his second wife got pregnant my mother hosted a shower for her and our family and her family came (both have kids from their previous marriages, my brothers youngest from his first was two!). 
I'm still disappointed and feel they should have at least said they weren't coming. But it's whatever. I'm trying to let it go. People suck sometimes.

I understand what you mean. And I didn't take it the wrong was as to all its supposed to be about is gifts. It wasn't so much about the gifts for the baby,granted they are a plus. But it's more about seeing everyone and having fun with it all. And talking about the baby coming and everything. Everything else will work out and be ok.
