I sure as hell was. I'm pretty sure I was around 5. I never put any thing up there, but I did a LOT of daydreaming about it and did some things with my stuffed animals.

I went to a seminar in college on sexuality and apparently it's uncommon to NOT do these things starting at an early age. Once you have a sense of "self" then it's natural to explore and to like certain things.

Self exploration is a totally normal step in development. Most parents usually get very upset when they find out that their child has been playing with their genitalia, the natural reaction (usually) is to say don't ever ever do that.

However, in my opinion; I'm kicking myself that I can't find the article, it's important to explain to your children that yes, it's ok to explore your body, BUT always in private, and to keep yourself clean. It's also very important to tell them in an age appropriate manner what explicit consent means. Like "If a another friend makes you do something you don't want to do, say no and immediately find an adult"

OR to quote the fabulous article that covers how children can and will touch themselves: "We don't play with our vulvas at the table, we do that in private after we've washed our hands."

Personally it wasn't until I was 7, that I felt the need to do some self exploration, that's also when puberty started for me. At 9 was my first period, I'd grown to 6' tall and have about the same body type that I do now. Unfortunately my parents said "No touching, no questions, ask the pediatrician about it."

I was curious.
