3D ultrasound?

I see a lot of posts with 3D ultrasounds. Did your doctor do this? If so, did you have to ask for it (as opposed to traditional 2D)? Or are these just from private ultrasound places?

I'm high risk and just had my 7th ultrasound today (26+6) with another next week. My OB told me not to go to private places for ultrasounds as they are not medically regulated by FDA and no telling the radiation exposure that could possibly be harmful. But I'd love a 3D one - they look so amazing!

Radiation exposure from a ultrasound? There is no radiation used in a ultrasound machine.  A ultrasound is high frequency sound waves.  You may want to do some research on the subject and then decide what is best for you and baby.

Radiation exposure is not a risk from an ultrasound. I have always had a dating scan, gender scan at an elective u/s place, anatomy scan and then a 3D/4D scan at an elective u/s place. All three of my babies are perfect ☺️ the 3D/4D scans are pretty amazing!!

Ultrasounds have actually never been determined as totally safe for your unborn child. The unregulated 3D places are not medically necessary and may pose a risk. I personally would not "get a new doctor" or dismiss the advice of your doctor. Perhaps ask him/her some more specific questions about it. He/she has a medical degree.

I got mine when I was in for check up with my High Risk OB.. I didnt ask for it, he just did one fir us.
FDA recognizes there is "lack of evidence of any harm" but recommends ultrasounds of any kind to be done by professionals and Dr. Only due to their expertise and instruments.  So best not to go to those places that offer them for cheaper outside your Dr. Office or hospital.

Not trying to sound rude but it sounds like you need a new Dr. Ultrasounds use just that, high frequency sound waves. There is ZERO radiation exposure. 
On that note, I am personally paying to go to a 3d imaging place to have a full session 3d/4d done. I did have an ultrasound yesterday to check his heart in depth and she switched to 3d for a minute and printed me a picture but i still want to get my own 20 minute session. To me it's worth the $100 to see him. That is personal preference and not something we can tell you to do or not but I think it's worth it!

My ultrasound techs would just flip it to 3D for a few profile shots and print them out! We didn't have to ask but if you ask, they will print a couple out for you!

With my first born I went from 22 weeks all the way to a week before giving birth. I went every 3 weeks. I was obsessed with them. Now with my second I have gone 2 times already and I am currently 23 weeks. I love them
