Generalizations

I don't tend to make complaints, and this isn't really a complaint, but I just really can't stand when people are giving advice on making a decision to someone on here and starts it off with "Everybody can agree that…", it bothers me. If you let me I'll explain why, it makes me feel like the advice is very biased, and discredits the other experiences made by others. So for a little situational senario, imagine that I got a dog from the shelter and that dog happened to be very bad, and maintaining the dog was a living Hell. Someone asks me, "Hey, I'm thinking about adopting a dog, what do you guys think? Should I go for for a shelter dog, or a dog that has been professionally bred?" Now, would I tell this person, "ALL SHELTER DOGS ARE BAD, I THINK WE ALL CAN AGREE! NEVER GO FOR A SHELTER DOG!!" Or tell them to go with whatever they feel is more suitable for them, while putting in a little bit of input on my personal experience? If you still can't see the point I'm trying to make I don't bother trying to figure it out, but all I'm trying to say is not everyone is going to have the same beliefs, and background as you. The experiences you have may be beneficial when trying to give someone advice, but don't force your experiences on everyone, because it's definitely not garunteed that your experience, is the ONLY experience. This stemmed from a few of the virginity threads, it was a complete mix of "I don't regret it young" and "I do regret losing it young". So when a curious teen on this board is asking about how/when people lost their virginity, the people insiting that their negative experience is the only way that anyone will ever experience when losing their virginity young, aren't really helpful… Sorry it was a little ranty, but I want to hear some thoughts? Why are certain people so sure that their beliefs are the only ones that exist in the world? Is it easier being close minded?
