Can you tell when you Ovulate?

This may be a weird question- but can you tell when you released your egg? I feel like I can only because it comes out in a small glob. Usually there is some white/clear discharge when I wipe leading up to the glob later in the day. TMI, I know! Is that what that is so its safe to say that's when I ovulated? Or is that just a lot of discharge that occurs around ovulation? It's consistently occurred the last 4 months or so on the 30th or 1st of the month (at least that I've noticed) so I've just assumed that's what it was.
