Did you attend a birthing class for your first child?!

Just curious...dh and I were scheduled to do a class when I was 34 weeks but ended up missing it as I was in L+D for bh and bleeding/dehydration. 
We don't have time to find another class...am I missing out? What are the big take aways for a first time mama from a birthing class?

My husband found it very helpful. The tips they gave for helping me through labor helped him the most. Yes the information was a bunch of stuff I could've looked up, but going gave the guarantee that my husband would pay attention. It really did all click for him at the class.

I took it because it's our first baby.  Mostly for the pain management.  I am a nurse so I studied about maternity but my husband doesn't have any experience. So I did it for him

I went to a birth class with my husband for our first. But I pretty much knew most of what they talked about. Research online is usually enough. I'm not going to waste my
Money this time around. :) but if you don't like to read or research online, then I would recommend going to one.

I took an infant care class but was unable to take a birthing class due to my work schedule. Now that I'm off work I checked and no classes available before my due date in 8 days. But I have had a lot of friends tell me it was pointless. I am however going to take a hospital tour bc my gf said they give you great advise on where to go during what hrs and the quickest way to L&D.

Prentice hospital in Chicago (part of northwestern) has an online version of their great expectations class. It may be worth checking out if you'd like to do something on your own schedule.

we went to a labor class and a postpartum class. signed up mainly for my husband to learn some stuff since we're first time parents but I ended up learning so much more than I thought. I definitely recommend classes! babies r us offers them free a few times a month!

We took birth classes offered via our doula, even with a hospital delivery planned. We want an extra hand on deck only focused on me and the baby, even if it takes a long time to deliver. She taught a 6w birth course that covered everything from natural to csection....Techniques, how to prep, how to recover and everything in between. No matter what happens, I feel much more confident with things having discussed and learned techniques for all levels.

I wasn't sure about the class originally but I am glad we did it. Plus, I attended one class at the hospital with a friend and hated it, it was so different. The hospital was much more clinical and I didn't feel open at all to asking very important questions.

I found the birthing class to be alarming and freaked me out way more. They did talk about relaxing and breathing - but it's all stuff you could look up online. I found that the breast feeding and infant care class were much more helpful to me.

Similar situation for me!  The next time they offer the labor/delivery class is on my due date 😩 I feel bad we missed and would love to hear that it wasn't all that insightful, lol.  We did make our newborn basics class last week - it was ok.  Some good discussion about calming/soothing, but she just showed us the video from "happiest baby on the block," which I thought...well, someone could've told me to just check this out from the library.  Oh well!
