Ectopic or miscarriage?

Well I don't really fit into any category on this app at this point and I hope my post isn't deleted as I wasn't sure where to post.  I am currently 6 weeks pregnant (according to my low hcg) but I do not have symptoms and I have been spotting and now bleeding for about 4 days (moderate bleeding and heavy cramping began today; however period like cramping has been happening throughout the pregnancy).  I had a dr's appt Tuesday and my hcg was 798, and a transvaginal ultrasound done in which there was no gestational sac found and it appeared as though I had been bleeding.  Dr believes it is either an early miscarriage in which nothing ever developed or an ectopic.  I am devastated and mourning the loss of the pregnancy that would've been and the possibility that it is ectopic and I will have to have surgery threatening future fertility.  I haven't had any abdominal "pain" like what most feel during ectopic, but I did take another pregnancy test and the line is slightly darker then what it was Monday.  I go in for blood work again tomorrow morning and was asked to fast until we receive the results in case we do the procedure.  Has anyone ever experienced this weird in between and the fear of the unknown?  Has anyone experienced ectopic WITHOUT the typical symptoms and had bleeding with clots (sorry, tmi)?   Or has anyone experienced a miscarriage in which hcg levels continued to rise slowly?
Needless to say, I'm so angry, scared, and disappointed that this was not the way I planned it to go and I just wish I had someone close to me who understood how I'm feeling.  I want so badly for this to end so I can receive closure and move on.
My heart goes out to all the ladies in this forum who have lost their children.  No parent should ever have to bury their child, and I admire you ladies so much for your strength.  Blessings to all of you!
