I work in university textbook sales and can say that publishers are having a very hard time pushing Ebooks on professors, and even most students are not interested in using them. 
Profs have told me that when they try and use Ebooks students complain that the book is more difficult to read and end up buying hard copies online. 
On top of that, psychological studies have shown that it is harder to remember information if it is read from an Ebook over a textbook. We rely on tactile senses to help remember things and computers lack those forms of stimulus. Even my sister, who is 18, prefers to have hard copy books over reading on a screen. 
I imagine it will still be about 10 years before ebooks completely replace paper books, and that it will require better ebook programs from the publisher and better reading interfaces for the user.

As a professor and a student not to long ago, I can safely say we (both professors and students) hate them!!!! Especially when the lab manual is online. We used eBooks last quarter and my student hated it. I was constantly having to print out the lab for each student because they had so many issues.

I personally do not like ebooks. I have a tablet and it has its uses, but trying to read and study from it is a royal pain. I find it harder to concentrate, harder to remember what I've read, not being able to put notes by specific sections is frustrating. My son's both have much more difficulty reading from a screen as well and become frustrated easily because they lose their place because they can't use their finger to keep track of where they are. I just don't see how it's a good idea to turn this into students main source of information.
