Long distance relationships

I've recently started talking to this guy who I've been "friends" on facebook with for a couple of years. He is honestly the most caring and nice guy I have ever known and he's so interesting, we just seemed to click straight away and the conversation flows so easily. However he lives in Plymouth which is like 5 hours away from me. He's already planning a trip to come and see me before Christmas but I want a relationship with someone close to me so I can see them everyday. Does anyone have any tips on how to make a long distance relationship work?
