HSG-Do they work?

Hello ladies,

Has anyone had an HSG?  I've been toying around with the idea.  Is it painful?  Did it help in TTC?

I did it last week and it was horrible - but very glad I did it, ticks it off the To Do List. It starts off like a smear test but when they insert the dye it feels like terrible menstryal cramping, then it gets stronger and just as you think oh crap! it stops! however, I had horrible pain throughout the day and following night, much worse than the procedure and used hot water bottles for comfort, very few women have had what I had. But even that just felt like someone had punched me in the stomach and it was ok by the following evening, clear tubes! happy it's done.

I had my first one almost 2 weeks ago. It was not as bad as people make it out to be. The worst part was when he showed a blockage and kept pushing the dye through- but it cleared the blockage! So a few minutes of pain may have been 100% worth it! After almost 5 years of ttc... we may have finally found-and solved- the problem! Good luck no matter what happens with your decision to go forth!

Had one August of last year to see if my tubes were blocked... For me it was quite painful even with painkillers I had pain for an entire week after and some bleeding as well.. A lot of women say they got pregnant right after but it's been a year and four months and still no baby for us so it just depends on your body and luck I guess :/

I guess who knows if this was really the cause, but we have been TTC for almost a full year, I just had the hsg done Nov 10, and got my BFP Dec 3 :) it's way too much of a coincidence for it to not have been what helped us! It was painful, but obviously worth it!

I had one done in July and it's not as bad as you imagine. When they inflate the balloon you get period like cramps but they go away within an hour, it's more of a shock how quickly the cramps come! You can't feel the catheter they use to insert the balloon or the dye! It's worth it!!

I had one done December 2015 it was extremely painful, I could hardly move an hour after and was still sore the next day, it felt like I was bruised.
