Breastmilk for pinkeye?

I am a ftm and my baby is almost 2 months. In the last couple days I developed a little swelling and tenderness in my eye. I'm not sure if it's pink eye but it's definitely some type of small infection. Disclaimer: I haven't had pinkeye since grade school so this really sucks!! I haven't been to my doc yet but was reading that sometimes antibiotics are prescribed. Well I don't want to take any meds because I'm breastfeeding. So I read some more and learned that breastmilk has been shown to be effective for treating eye infections. So once already I have pumped and doused my eye in the milk. It felt really soothing but this was about ten minutes ago so no noticeable improvement yet. Has anyone else used their milk for home remedies? Anyone ever treat pinkeye with it? Putting my own milk in my eye is definitely the oddest thing I have done since giving birth 😜

Update: I tried the breastmilk and it totally worked! I squirted it in my eye 3-4 times a day. Within 12 hours all soreness was gone and soon after that the swelling went down! Now at 2.5 days after starting my eye is just a bit red. Wow!! Breastmilk is crazy!

This is so cool that you brought this up. Years ago(when I was like 10) my dad had pink eye and came home from work and said that some of his coworkers told him to put breastmilk in his eye. My Mom happened to be breastfeeding at the time so he did. And it worked! It started clearing up that night, he was shocked. He still will recommend it to people. I never heard anyone mention using breastmilk for pink before or since. But I would say give it a try, if it's your own milk you shouldn't have any problems.

Our pediatrician just told us this last week at our appointment. She told us to try this if baby were to get pink eye. Also she said if baby gets a cold to put it up their nostrils and suction it out after with a bulb syringe!
