Allergic Reactions to the Flow?

Every time I have my period I become sicker then hell. If cramps weren't bad enough it's everything going along side of it, I have become sick to the point of having to be hospitalized until my period has past, I have a hard time using pads because I break out and grow sore, I can't imagine what could happen if I attempted to use a tampon. Is it possible to have an allergy or sever medical reaction every time I have my period? What could it be? And what can I do to help treat it? I've been to my family doctor and he says all I can do is just wait my period out. Any suggestions?
