Clomid

For anyone who has been prescribed Clomid, how long were you trying before your doctor prescribed it? I emailed my doctor about it and they said they wouldn't prescribe it unless you've been trying for a year. We have been trying for 6 months actively and I've been off of BC for a year. So how can I get a prescription? Do I just wait for another 6 months? Are there any tests they have to do first?
